Free vaccination for migrants in Marseille
On July 23, 2021, the city of Marseille formalized its first vaccination commitment in favour of migrants with the territorial directorate of the OFII.
To this end, an agreement was signed in the presence of Michèle Rubirola, the first deputy mayor of Marseille, and Didier Leschi, director general of the OFII. It falls within a “fairer, closer and more democratic health policy”, according to Michèle Rubirola.
Through this unique partnership in France, the city of Marseille is providing the medical service of the territorial directorate of the OFII of Marseille, with doses of vaccine against measles, mumps, rubella and hepatitis B.
This measure allows migrants easier access to vaccination and reinforces their health pathway through the “health appointment” scheduled by the OFII.
Vaccination is free of charge and the agreement provides for annual follow up.
Regarding the signature of the vaccine agreement, Michèle Rubirola said: “In France, health is an unconditional right and vaccination is, in my opinion, the first concrete act of this right. This collaboration with the OFII is an illustration of a profound humanism, of a common desire to protect our fellow citizens but also the whole of society.”
Didier Leschi indicated that it is a “unique and exemplary protocol in France”. He also underlined that “the commitment of the City Council [is] all the more remarkable as it is in fact proof of a capacity to work for the good of public health.”
