OFII Territorial Directorate in Clermont-Ferrand and Michelin company: a partnership that runs smoothly
The OFII Territorial Directorate in Clermont-Ferrand has developed an active partnership with the Michelin company. The Directorate introduces demanding courses for qualifying results.
Fulfilled requirements
Even if the requirements are significant: relatively high level of understanding of French (B1), self-management skills and testing during hiring sessions, 9 refugees signed in December 2021 their work-study contract with the Michelin company following 4 months of Group Operational Preparation for Employment.
Travels inside the French metropolis
Located throughout the country, from Cholet to Golbey, Roanne, Bourges, Puy-en-Velay, and of course Clermont-Ferrand, their life will alternate for 18 months between spending 15 days of work in one of the Michelin companies and 15 days at the National Agency for Adult Vocational Training (AFPA) in Clermont-Ferrand.
A course leading to a diploma
Following these 18 months, they will take tests to receive the diploma for maintenance technician. It is a very demanding job which requires multiple skills, a capacity to work in groups, and being able to adjust to staggered working hours.
Refugees from different cultures
The youngest of this year was 19 years old and came from Afghanistan on July 2021. He signed the republican integration contract before the cameras of a French TV channel and integrated, 3 days later, the HOPE “Accommodation Orientation Pathways to Employment” programme of the Michelin company.
A pharmacist arriving from Syria in 2019, with the highest rank this year, already spotted by the recruiters of the Michelin company for a career development following the training declared “I am not interested in studying pharmacy all over again in France, I want to learn a new job quickly and evolve within this company”.
A successful collaboration
With the 9 refugees in attendance, the Human Resources Director of the Michelin company, along with Mr. Philippe Chopin, the Puy de Dôme Prefect, brought together the different players: OFII, AFPA, Pôle Emploi and the Regional Directorate for Economy, Employment, Labour and Solidarity (DREETS) within its training centre. These players all visited the Cataroux site, the oldest factory of the Michelin group, located in Clermont-Ferrand, as well as its interactive museum “Michelin Adventure”.
