French Presidency of the Council of the European Union – Review of OFII’s participation

The French Presidency of the Council of the European Union (FPEU) ended on 30 June 2022. This FPEU ensured that good cooperation between all Member States was strengthened for a sovereign Europe.

The French Office for Immigration and Integration (OFII) is committed, within the framework of its missions, to cooperative actions at European level to facilitate the return and reintegration of migrants present on European soil to their countries of origin.

The OFII mobilised for the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union (FPEU)

Within the framework of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union (FPEU), the OFII presented the AVR-reintegration scheme to the Council of the European Union in Brussels, in front of the Integration, Migration and Expulsion group, known as the IMEX group.

The OFII’s Directorate of Immigration, Return, Reintegration and International Affairs (DIRRI) was represented by Thomas Péguy, Deputy Director (in blue on the right in the photo).

This meeting, chaired by France, brought together all the Member and Associated States, the European Commission and the Frontex agency, which is responsible for voluntary returns and, as of 1 July 2022, for reintegration.

  • The OFII’s contribution to this high-level meeting within the framework of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union shows:
  • the OFII’s invaluable expertise in the management of migratory pathways;
  • the OFII’s ongoing commitment to the successful and sustainable reintegration of illegal immigrants;
  • the positive collaborative work set up by the OFII in conjunction with other European countries to strengthen the return of migrants to their countries of origin.
