First medicalised departures to Georgia
Since 1 April 2021, and until 31 March 2022, an experimental scheme for assisted voluntary medical return to Georgia has been implemented by the OFII in partnership with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).
It aims at the return and reintegration of Georgians from France. They must be eligible for the OFII’s assisted voluntary return programme and their state of health must require medical care in Georgia, and if necessary during the journey. This programme also allows the patient’s family members to travel with them, and to benefit from reintegration assistance.
To date, 8 departures have been made, 4 of which are medical (three adults and one child).
OFII and/or IOM agents were present on departure from France and on arrival in Georgia to accompany the first trips, which took place in the first week of June.
